About Leah Chodroff

Family History

Leah Chodroff was born in Lancaster, PA to Charles and Mary Chodroff. Leah’s mom Mary Van Metre was raised in Baltimore and then went to University of Pennsylvania for nursing school where she met Leah’s dad Charlie who was doing his internal medicine residency there at the time. After Mary correcting Charlie on the proper management of patients many times in the ED, she agreed to go out with him and the rest is history.

About Leah

Leah was raised in York, PA with her two siblings, older brother Ben and younger sister Eleanor. All the Chodroff children grew up playing the violin. Leah started when she was 4 years old and continued to play throughout college. She taught violin lessons to elementary school children throughout high school and stayed active playing in orchestras. Every once in a while, she’ll still pick up the violin, usually only for special requests by family members.

After graduation from high school Leah went to Kenyon College in Ohio where she majored in chemistry. She spent one summer in college working at the Grand Canyon as a waitress, which was still one of her favorite summer jobs, mostly due to the amazing hiking that was readily available. She found her love of surgery the following summer during a summer internship at York Hospital where she was able to shadow surgeons and scrub in the OR. This first hands-on experience was what ultimately guided her career choices.

After college, Leah moved to Washington, DC for a year, working at the Advisory Board as a marketing assistant while applying to medical school. Ultimately, she was accepted to Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. After deciding to pursue a residency in surgery, Leah realized that she had spent the majority of her life in the northeast and was ready for a change, and eventually matched into residency at the University of Texas Health in San Antonio, TX.

While in San Antonio Leah has stayed busy at work. She did find time to go to Starbucks one day and met Chris, who has since put up with her crazy schedule. So far, she has completed almost 3 years of clinical residency and 2 years of research. She has 2 more years to go and then plans to pursue a fellowship (additional training) in Surgical Oncology.

When Leah is not working, or studying she enjoys going hiking, camping, cooking and baking. The baking is hard because if chocolate is left unattended in the house Chris will eat it all and then somehow its Leah fault…
